Wait til next year though. That fabulous tulip will bloom pitifully. The first year is an explosion of color and every year after the dang bulbs grow weaker! Next year I'm forgetting about tulips and sticking to daffodils and Irises they don't get weaker, they get stronger.
Good point Kym. I actually forced my Tulips in pots, so it's most likely they will get tossed in the end. And frankly, it was a lot of waiting for just a little bit of early color. I think I will look for more daffs next year.
As for getting stronger with age (and remarkably minimal maintenance), may I recommend the Clematis! My new favorite.
